ONE OF US IS LYING Star to Play Love Interest of Film’s Lead
Los Angeles, CA (June 18, 2022) – Realm Pictures International has signed actor Chibuikem Uche for its theatrical post-Civil War epic Steal Away, which is slated to begin filming in winter of this year. Uche is cast as young Wallace Moore, a once-tender boy turned raging militant following the murder of his family by supremacist forces. Coarse, crass, and full of gangster swagger, Moore is the love interest of the film’s prim protagonist, the Ella Sheppard. Uche is currently in production for his second season of the NBC/Peacock series, One Of Us Is Lying, based on the best-selling book by Karen M. McManus, in which he stars in the role of Cooper Clay. He was previously featured in the blockbuster Amazon hit, The Tomorrow War and was a regular on ABC’s hit, American Housewife.
“Steal Away is a raw, wonderfully-told epic. This story sheds light on some of the horrors in America’s history, while highlighting the beauty that often emerges from dark spaces. I believe it can provide light and healing.
I was immediately taken by the captivatingly gritty script. I’m grateful that Stephen and the team have entrusted me with portraying the ball of fire that is Wallace Moore. I’m humbled to be a part of bringing this important story to screen!”
“Tortured by fiery rage and an ocean of unshed tears, Wallace Moore is a deeply complex and nuanced character. We know that Chib, one of the most extraordinary and electrifying young artists of our day, will light up screens as Wallace,” said Stephen Ashley Blake, Steal Away’s director.
Based on Andrew Ward’s epic “Dark Midnight When I Rise,” Steal Away is the true saga of the legendary Fisk Jubilee Singers, a sensational young warrior choir fighting the KKK’s reign of terror against their schools, including the newly founded HBCUs, not with bullets or bombs but electrifying songs of faith and freedom, the spirituals. Steal Away follows the choir’s titanic rise from the darkness of slavery to the glittering ballrooms and throne rooms of England as they conquer the world, and must then conquer their own demons. With characters ranging from President Ulysses S. Grant to Queen Victoria, Steal Away will feature a diverse international cast and the strongest Black female lead in cinema history.
Meanwhile, the Fisk Jubilee Singers continue to build on their legend. In 2021, 150 years after their founding in Nashville, the choir won their first Grammy, taking the award for Best Roots Gospel Album.
